Everyday Latex Tea Party

Early November, Rae invited a bunch of people over to her mom's house in the suburbs for an elegant tea party.

As soon as set up was complete, Haley, Rae's sister, and Cheri, Rae's mom all joined in for some pre-tea party selfies.

Note the tapestry behind them - it was hand made by Rae's grandmother.

Rae used some of her grandmother's china, flowers, succulents borrowed from Haley and a couple of china statues from the late 1800's to decorate the table.  Doilies abounded.  It was like they were multiplying before your eyes.  Rae also spent a little bit TOO much time designing and printing menus for the event.

The menu included scones with butter and jam, sandwiches with a cucumber and cream cheese filling, cookies, cupcakes, mini chocolate covered cheesecakes, cookies, and of course, at least ten different kinds of tea.

Guests began to arrive, and needed a bit of a refresher shine.  We didn't want to end up playing slip and slide on the foyer tiles so we sent everyone outside.  At one point a woman began walking up with pamphlets in hand, and a bright smiles on her face.  She  looked at Erica and Shayne on the porch, her smile faded, and before she made it up the steps she turned around and walked away.  Cheri told Erica and Shayne that they were better than guard dogs and were welcome to scare away pamphlet holders whenever they wanted.

The only gentleman to attend, who will forthwith be called Mr. Rubber Friend, informed us all that high tea begins with champagne.  Rae welcomed everyone and poured the bubbly (and the tea).

There was absolutely no fun to be had at the tea party.

After all the snacks, we decided we had to move around a little, and ran around the house trying to take a decent picture.  Rae made everyone stand on the stairs - just like Cheri used to make her do as a teenager before she went out to an event.

Haley's dress matched the paint in the dining room.

 Yael touched a butt.

Then came the dishes.

Tea was lovely.  It was a nice low key hang out with good food and good company.  We can't wait to do our next outing together.
